Blog Post # 6

The Networked Student

A wordle describing PLN'sThis video was very interesting, and kinda stems from my previous blog post. The question is "why does the networked student even need a teacher?" It seems from this video the answer is no. But, I don't believe necessarily the teacher should be omitted, but like parents, should be used as a guide to her students. Their goal in a technology type class should be to point them in the right direction. The student she be given a starting point in his quest to learn through technology tools.

After a few clicks, and searches online you are introduced to a multitude of resources to use in projects, assignments, and also blog help. Teachers should be constantly up to date on new advances in technology to be able to guide her students in their lessons. Students have the ability to reach the world using a personal learning network. The teacher teaches how to determine if the site has the accurate amount of information so that he can use those skills to build his network.

I'm learning that blogs are a great way to voice your opinions, and connect with fellow students. Blogs are a great tool also to build your PLN. Now, I don't be no means think computers are replacing the teacher completely. There will always be a need for them to guide students and allow them the chance to grow and learn on their own pace, and style.

Symbaloo

I love this idea of a Symbaloo as your PLN. I put it on my computer right away, and can't wait to start playing around with it. I plan to make one for my girls also for their games and educational websites. I plan to gather sites I found through educators on Pinterest. I like especially that you can set up these great sites and they are there with a click of a button. Me and my family will enjoy using this.

  1. Yes, I agree that connectivism requires teachers - but teachers who do very different things than teachers in the past. Baldwin County is now ephasizing the use of challenge based, project-based and problem-based learning strategies at all grade levels. These efforts are similar to the networked student's approach to learning except the approaches vary according to grade. If you are not prepared or are not willing to be a networked teacher you can cross Baldwin County off your list of potential employers. So get ready to be a Networked Teacher!

  2. I think your post is well written and enjoyed reading it. I think you grasped the point that a networked teacher has to be a teacher of skills, rather than just facts.
